You Are Invited to a Public Open House!

You are invited to attend a Public Open House on March 20 at Adams City High School and March 21 at the Northglenn Senior Center.  Since September 2006, the FasTracks North Metro Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) project team has been examining transit alternatives in the North Metro EIS study area (see project information below).  Based on technical review as well as agency and public input, the project team has moved forward with commuter rail transit technology alternatives, primarily using the existing railroad right-of-way.

Level 3 Alternatives with EMU-DMU

An Open House format allows the public the opportunity to stop by at any time between 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to learn about the progress of the North Metro project and to:

  • Review Level 3 evaluation results of the rail alignment options:
    • Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway from Denver Union Station (DUS) to Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) Boulder Branch Alignment
    • UPRR from DUS to UPRR Boulder Branch Alignment
  • Review commuter rail transit technology characteristics and comparisons of Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) and Electric Multiple Unit (EMU)
  • Discuss proposed station locations and issue topics

(Both meetings will present the same information.)

Project Information

The RTD FasTracks North Metro EIS is a high-capacity fixed-guideway transit corridor between Denver Union Station (DUS) and the 162nd Avenue area, passing through north Denver, Commerce City, Northglenn, Thornton, and unincorporated Adams County. The North Metro EIS will result in the identification of a preferred alternative – rail alignment, rail technology, and station locations. The EIS will also identify potential impacts caused by implementation of the preferred alternative and will recommend ways to minimize or mitigate any possible adverse impacts.

Station Planning Committee and Issues Forum

Station Planning and Issues Forum meetings are currently underway and designed to focus on station location and design issues and to address public concerns regarding noise, air quality, traffic and safety issues, property values and other issues.  Keep checking the project website at www.rtd-fastracks.com/nm_2 to learn more about Station Planning Committee and Issues Forum activities and progress.

Throughout the EIS process, similar opportunities will be available for the public to provide input on project decisions.  The EIS is scheduled to be completed in 2008 and the line will be completed by 2015.
